July 16th, 2008 by dave

Our own Andre Pope is live blogging his wife Heidi’s labor as they bring new baby Memphis into the world. Congratulations to the Popes. Here’s wishing the best to all of them!

Myrtle Beach on TV

July 9th, 2008 by dave

On my personal blog, I posted about this but I thought I’d put it here too.

Tomorrow night on the Samantha Brown Great Weekends program on the Travel Channel they will be featuring Myrtle Beach. The episode airs tomorrow, July 10th at 10:30 PM EDT. The Travel Channel is 111 on Time Warner Cable, and 58 on HTC cable. I’ve got my fingers crossed about how well our area comes off.

New Blog in the Blogroll

June 23rd, 2008 by dave

I feel bad for this but Judy the wellness physician has a blog. She was a participant at CREATE South where many of us met her. Although I’ve been subscribed to her blog since meeting her, I neglected to ever put her in the blogroll here (which also meant she wasn’t getting in the blog roundups.) I fixed that, and I apologize for the long delay. A belated welcome to the party!

Blog Roundup for June 23

June 23rd, 2008 by dave

This is Dave, in the slot that Bonnie normally does the roundup. It’s my penance for missing my slot last Thursday. Seriously folks, we could stand five more volunteers in here with us doing roundups. Come join us Grand Stranders of the blogosphere.

Judy discusses how to create healthy eating habits in children.

Paul details his experiments with FriendFeed, social aggregation and his blog.

Nicholas is pondering buying a VW Beetle and enjoying Spore Creator.

The Myrtle Beached Whale shares a picture worth a thousand words for his Wordless Wednesday.

Ms. Caesi discovers the deliciousness of tzatziki sauce and shares a movie review of The Happening.

Jim points out a distinction Ask.com has given to the Myrtle Beach area.

MB Kimmy has a name and date for the new baby and is straining under the pressure of it all. Give her some encouragement if you can, she’s having a rough time.

Over at the Killer Robot Clan, Bonnie shares her experiences with training her horse , muses on life and careers and Andrew points out Live Journal helpfulness isn’t so helpful.

Over at I See 2020, he recommends some music that he has been enjoying lately.

I usually don’t put my own posts in the roundup but I’ve just started a new project near and dear to my heart.

At The Opinion Blog Denny cites a story about the new urbanism from high gas prices and points to an editorial that says SC voters may still lack confidence in the electronic voting systems.

Chris Y posts pictures of a recent performance and is visiting Los Angeles currently.

Monday Roundup

June 17th, 2008 by Bonnie Shull

I will admit that I have spent the last two weeks caught up in the excitement of my new horse and have neglected the Monday Roundups. Now we are back to our regularly scheduled programming.

The Chicken Blog just posted a review of multiple musicians and performers.

The latest post at The Opinion Blog concerns Dennis Kucinich’s impeachment efforts, and has some pretty good commentary going on.

Ms. Caesi just reviewed a movie called “The Happening”, and made me want to go see it!

At the Killer Robot Clan blog I’ve been musing about the hidden dangers of sedentary jobs. My husband complains about the strong-arm approach of social media networks.

Azareal produced her first YouTube video, a tutorial for opening bottles with a butter knife.

Chris Mowder regrets the recent Sun News layoffs and gives us a video of a snoring duckling.

MBKimmy shares Tatum’s birthday pictures. So cute!

Paul of the Screw the Man blog has presented a thoughtful post on the evolution of social media conversations.

Dave of Evil Genius Chronicles has posted a step by step guide to leaving twitter for FriendFeed. The switch is totally worth it, you should do it!

The Libertine Gazette shares a great video titled “Vote Republican. Get What You Deserve.”

This review takes us back to last Friday, June the 13th. Unfortunately my RSS reader hates me and has hidden the button for looking at later posts, so thats all for today. Dave will do another roundup later this week.

Night ya’ll.

Blog Roundup for June 6

June 6th, 2008 by dave

This is Dave. I’m shooting to do the Thursday blog roundups now that Bonnie is doing them on Mondays (although I am a day late.) Other Grand Stranders, please come step up and join us. If five more volunteers join us, we can have daily roundups without any individual doing much work.

Note that I’m trying to do the roundups in a random order every time. The old version of Wordpress would sort them randomly in the sidebar every time and I’d load the page and then do them in that order. Now I’m just swinging the mouse around and whatever I click on is the next in the list. I’m trying not to slight anyone here.

Myrtle Beach Ramblings has a list of songs that always work for him and even a bit of flash fiction.

I See 2020 has a remembrance of Bo Diddley.

At Highways and Biways there is a touching post about childhood loss and fear and kindness.

Ms. Caesi does a movie review of The Strangers and ponders the existence of aliens.

PoliTick-Tock points out the South Strand Republican Club picnic, the Beach Dems breakfast and a Thad Viers BBQ. Politics is always easier to take when they feed you.

Killer Robot Clan talks about a new horse in the family and making some diet and exercise changes.

The Outboard Brain of a Geek muses over what Twitter needs to stay a viable service.

Chris Mowder has the first walk with the new baby and is trying to hold it together with baby care.

Candyace made it to Level 40 this week. I don’t know what game, but Level 40 must be good, right?

Andre Pope is trying to be a localvore and is working with the One Sixth miniatures convention.

Azareal is making glow in the dark ice cubes.

MB Kimmy’s daughter Tatum is walking and has pictures of a baby not quite here yet.

MB Musings has the first new post since joining our blogroll and, well, muses on what has been happening that wasn’t blogging.

Brandon Advertising discusses the relationship between a business and a customer.

New Blog in the Blogroll

May 30th, 2008 by dave

This one was suggested a few times, once by the author in comments and then concurrently by another GSB Blogger before I moderated the first comment. It is Myrtle Beach Ramblings, written by the psuedonymous Myrtle Beached Whale. Check out the photos of people holding the sun, they are really great. Welcome to the blogroll, MBW!

Monday Blog Roundup

May 27th, 2008 by Bonnie Shull

I’m submitting this Monday Roundup at 2:38 AM on Tuesday. Bad blogger, no cookie. To make up for my tardiness I offer a gift. Here’s an OPML file of all the Grand Strand Bloggers. Import it into your favorite RSS reader and you’ll get a folder with the feeds of each blog featured in this site’s blog roll.

We are still looking for people to volunteer to do a blog roundup one day a week. Tuesdays through Sunday are wide open, take your pick. I will even share my super-efficient roundup methodology.

All right, here we go:

Andre Pope eulogizes his pet octopus, complete with some really cool pics.

Azareal talks about photographing chemistry demonstrations.

Brandon Advertising published a great article on using wikis for online marketing.

A gaming obsession has hit CandyAce Productions, as this review of Age of Conan reveals.

Chris Mowder has been blogging up a storm this week, documenting the birth of his son. Congratulations Chris!

Evil Genius Chronicles posts about data migration, reviews Bike Week, and suffers from statistics anxiety.

Over at I See 20/20 music is the topic of the week with a post about an iTunes plugin and another about an awesome desert music festival.

The Libertine Gazette posts a video by Chalmers Johnson that presents historical evidence that America is in a decline.

The MB Sun Blog posted an awesome picture of George Clinton’s Parliament Funkadelic troupe from their Friday night performance at the Hard Rock Theme Park.

MBKimmy blogs about what it’s like to be pregnant while raising a toddler.

The PoliTick-Tock blog gives us a review of the recent debate between the county treasurer candidates and details on a BBQ meet and greet for Jody Prince.

The RogBlog reviews Sick Stooges Bike Week performances and updates us on the kids.

The latest post at The Opinion Blog calls for a strong third party candidate to run on an economic platform. He specifically mentions Ross Perot, but IMO Ron Paul is the man who fits the bill.

You may have noticed that Killer Robot Clan is missing from the roundup. I haven’t posted this week because I’ve been busy launching my business website, www.bonnieshull.com. If you need any work done to your Wordpress blog, let me know!

More Blogs for the Blogroll

May 21st, 2008 by dave

From the CREATE South conference we had two new bloggers minted. Jo is the author of Highways and Biways, and Roger is the author of his own deal. Welcome both of them!

Anne aka Azareal let me know that she has a blog and also pointed me to Candyace Productions as another local blogger.

Andre sent me a link to the Chicken Bog blog. It seems like it hasn’t been that active the last few months but maybe this link will light a fire. I know that I as a blogger could use a fire now and then.
